Greetings everyone!
Topic for this post is Crafting.
Tired of being broke? Tired of paying an arm/leg for your gear?
There are some key points to this that I am going to point out of which I believe are most important and will help everyone, experienced players and new, and even those that have several lvl 50 toons and never even touched crafting but who are poor as hell and can't even help buy rams and wood for RvR.
Why Craft?
1. It is very rewarding.
a.For a variety of reasons other than it makes you feel good about yourself and you get your name put on the item you crafted. What I mean by "rewarding" is, if you can craft, you will have less of an issue of having a cash flow problem in game. Many who craft have 0 issues whatsoever. Yes, there are those who never crafted and are rich, but it took them a very long time to get to that point and there are only a few players who have managed to pull that off.
Basically what I am saying here is, Crafting is about near a pre-req to helping yourself out as there ever was without the game itself making it mandatory.
b.But hey, If you are one of those few who wish to butt your head against the wall daily, spinning your wheels in the mud getting no-where fast and living your entire in-game career on DAOC Food Stamps and hand-me-down gear from other players, by all means stop reading here.
2. You can create your own gear.
All you have to do is have just a smidgeon of patience, take 30-45 min a day, and in about 3 weeks, you'll have yourself a LGM of one of the 4 main crafts: Tailoring, Weaponcrafting, Armorcrafting, Fletching.
Personally I'd rather invest that small amount of time on a daily basis for a few weeks, than go the route of 1.b. That in in itself is a time-sink that is worse on an ultra mulitplier scale than doing just a little work on the front end. But again, like I stated above, don't craft at your own risk. Trust me it aint worth not crafting.
3. Salvage, Salvage, Salvage!
Choose 1 of the main 4 skills I mentioned earlier as your first craft. After that, keep your subskills up to same level as your main craft skill. They are, Leatherworking, Clothworking, Woodworking, Metalworking.
You'll be able to salvage and tinker the unwanted gear you collect for a much higher return when you sell it to vendors.
4. Craft Tasks.
What is this thing you say? Craft Tasks? That is a weird concept!
Even on live, Craft Tasks existed. Here on Genesis, they do have them, albeit not quite what it was on live, but I believe a lot better. Better rate of return for your time if you know what you are doing.
Most players will craft as they level up. I normally suggest at least 20 points of craft skill per level. Easier to stay focused on crafting.
However, due to the way Genesis has currently coded Craft Tasks, I would like to suggest something else that's a little more radical. Get your Main skill to at least 700 by the time you are lvl 30. From that point, do 20 craft tasks per lvl. At lvl 35, make sure you are at 800. At lvl 37, make it 900-940.
Why do this in this particular manner?
Because there are 2 ways to cap yourself out of Craft Tasking.
They are:
1. Reach lvl 40.
2. Reach 1000 skill.
If you followed my template I gave above in this particular topic (4), then you'll make a lot of plat before you reach lvl 40. Personally I made 6 plat from lvl 30-40 just off of Craft Tasking. Just go to the craft master, target him and type in /w task. After receiving the task, you can review the info of what to make and who to turn the made item in to by doing /task.
5. Multiple Crafts on 1 toon.
On Genesis you are allowed to craft in other skills, such as Spellcrafting and Alchemy. However make sure you choose one of the 4 main crafts (Tailoring, weapon, armor, fletch) first before doing Spellcrafting or Alcheming or else you won't be able to increase your subskills (leather, cloth, metal, wood).
6. Door repair in RvR.
Get your woodworking up and you can repair doors. Yes this is going to cost you some coin, but you do get RP's for repairing damaged doors.
7. You'll be able to create your own Armor, Barding and Saddlebags for your horse.
Armor and Barding are pretty much optional, they make your horse look cool.
Saddlebags...You need them whether you know it or not.
If you are anywhere but an RvR zone, you can summon your horse and store up to 16 more slots worth of items on it.
If you are in RvR and want to carry 16 rams.. welp, your horse will carry them with no bearing on your encumberance! Just drag the rams from your mount saddlebags to one of your hot bars, click on the ram in your hot bar to place it!
Ok, so as you can see pleny of reasons to craft, very few reason not to craft.
There really is no excuse to be perpetually poor in this game. Crafting is key to getting and staying rich in DAOC!
